Looking for a user-friendly family vehicle with proven safety standards?  Look no further than the 2010 Subaru Tribeca.  This year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2010 Tribeca 5 out of 5 stars in the categories of overall safety, passenger front, front side, and rear side, and 4 out of 5 stars rollover rating.  To further investigate the superiority of this “safety first” SUV, we’ve compared it to the 2010 Volvo XC60 T6 AWD.

One of the safest SUV’s on the road, the 2010 Tribeca is a great choice for a quality family vehicle with performance features including its 256-hp 6-cylinder SUBARU BOXER engine with 247 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm, and standard all-wheel drive.  When compared to the 2010 Volvo XC60 T6 AWD, many features of these vehicle were highly comparable.  There were a few exceptions that stood out, however.

First, the MSRP, an important comparison component, is $30,495 base for the 2010 Subaru Tribeca, and $37,200 base for the comparably equipped Volvo.  Next, the engine displacement in the Tribeca is 3630, while only 2953 in the Volvo XC60.  While both come equipped with all-wheel drive, the chassis turning circle (curb to curb) in the Tribeca measures 37.4 versus 38.4 in the XC60, and the the curb weight of the Tribeca comes in at a full pound less than the XC60.

In addition, the interior of the Tribeca includes more head, leg and shoulder room than the comparable Volvo.  And, the Tribeca  has even more safety features, such as standard Active Front Head Restraints, which help to prevent whiplash in the event of a collision.  Standard heated seats in the Tribeca are only an optional upgrade in the Volvo, and overhead console storage also comes standard in the Tribeca, while optional in the Volvo.  And, trivial as it may seem, there never are enough cup holders to handle the potential load capacity on any given day, except in the Tribeca, where a quantity of 10 come standard, whereas in the Volvo there are only 4.  Finally, the rust perforation warranty on the Subaru Tribeca is unlimited, while the Volvo XC60’s only lasts for up to 100,000 miles.

While both vehicles possess highly regarded safety features, it becomes clear that, for the money, the Subaru Tribeca has a bit more to offer in terms of standard features, all for about $7,000 less than the Volvo XC60 T6 AWD.
