Don’t forget your end-of-summer service inspection
August 31, 2010 by SUBARULOVERS, under Subaru Performance.

More miles are driven in the U.S. during the summer months than any other time of the year, and all of those miles in triple-digit weather is definitely not easy on the Subie! Breakdowns, blowouts and overheating are far more likely, and the heat can really affect your vehicle’s performance and reliability. Now that the road trips are coming to an end, it’s time to make sure that all that summer fun hasn’t taken too big of a toll on your vehicle! The easiest way to revamp your Subaru is to stop by the Subaru Superstore of Chandler Service Department for an after-summer vehicle inspection.
During an after-summer vehicle inspection, your service technician will make sure you’re in tip-top shape by checking the following:
Tire Wear and Tear
Rubber tends to break down faster in warmer temperatures. Your technician will be on the lookout for treads that appear worn-down, and cracks or divots in the tire walls, which could lead to a blowout. Also, worn-out tires perform poorly in rainy conditions, a double-whammy of danger during monsoon season. Your tire pressure will be checked to ensure it is in the right range, as too-high or too-low pressure yields bad fuel economy, draining your gas tank and your wallet!
Air Filter Inspection
Road construction, pollen, dust storms and other warm-weather pollutants can produce plenty of build-up on your air filter, making it smell funny and reducing the efficiency of your engine. Not only will it prevent you from breathing concentrated amounts of dirty air, replacing your air filter regularly will keep the air flowing freely in your engine, giving you better performance and gas mileage. When in doubt, change it out!
Spark Plugs
These are inexpensive to replace, but crucial to power your vehicle. Over time, they can become caked with carbon, rendering them progressively useless to deliver the spark that keeps your vehicle’s electrical system powered up and compromising acceleration.
Fuel Filters
To keep your fuel lines and engine clean and in good working order, have your fuel filters replaced regularly. Debris and build-up from oil and gasoline will eventually compromise performance, causing you to press harder on the gas pedal to get your vehicle moving, burning excess fuel in the process!
Brake Pads, Rotors and Fluids
In addition to these necessary standard inspection points, be sure your A/C, your radiator and hoses need to be checked by your technician. Wear and tear on these parts can lead to your vehicle overheating, possibly leaving you stranded. Be sure to have your coolant tested to determine if it needs replacing in order to handle the most brutal season for your car.
One stop into your dealer’s service department should cover all of these bases, and possibly more! It will definitely be time well spent.
