Meet Subaru Rally Team USA Driver Dave Mirra

August 26, 2010 by , under Subaru Performance.

After recently placing 3rd in the 2010 Olympus Rally, Dave Mirra came in 12th overall at this year’s ESPN X Games 16 at the Memorial Colosseum in Los Angeles, where he raced the new 2011 WRX STI rally car.   So far, Mirra ranks 4th place overall in the 2010 Championship standings.

Hailing from Greenville, North Carolina, Dave Mirra began his racing career on a BMX bike in 1992.  He currently holds the record for the most total X Games medals as well as the most gold medals.  He has acutally medaled in every X Games competition since its inception in 1995.  Mirra, the guy who is credited with bringing freestyle BMX racing into the mainstream, became hooked on rally racing after being introduced to the sport by friend and former SRT USA driver Ken Block.

Mirra’s attraction to the Subaru Rally Team was a natural fit.  In 2007, he tested and trained with drivers Ken Block and Travis Pastrana, and in 2008 raced half of the 2008 rally, garnering Rookie of the Year status for his performance.  He then earned the bronze at X Games 14, beating out 2 top North American drivers.

In 2009 Mirra competed with fellow SRT USA teammates Block and Pastrana in the 2009 Rally America National Championship in the new Super Production class.  With co-driver Martin Headland, Mirra is currently captaining an Open Class 2011 Subaru WRX STI, which he drove at the 2010 Rally America events and ESPN X Games in Los Angeles.
