White House Fuel Economy Standards

Last week, President Obama announced the next phase for the Administration’s program to dramatically increase fuel efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas pollution for all new cars and trucks sold in the United States. The new fuel economy standards will cover Model Years 2017-2025, with 2025 being the deadline for automakers to offer cars with 54.5 mpg or better.

President Obama’s aggressive new fuel economy plan began in 2009 when he announced that automakers will have to increase the average fuel economy of new cars and trucks to 35.5 mpg by Model Year 2016 and lower greenhouse gas emissions to 250 grams per mile, while maintaining consumer choice.

The new 2011 to 2025 fuel economy standards will save consumers a total of $1.7 trillion in fuel savings, cut greenhouse gas emissions by more than 6 billion metric tons, and reduce U.S. oil dependence and consumption by saving a total of 12 billion barrels over the lifetime of the program. Under the new standards, a family that buys a 2025 vehicle is projected to save an estimated $8,200 in fuel savings over the lifetime of the vehicle. Subaru Succeeds by Eliminating Waste

June 7, 2011 by , under Dealership News, Environmentally Friendly, Green Vehicles, Subaru Value, Uncategorized.

Subaru is proud to be one of the major auto companies planning for our future generations and it sure has paid off!

“REMEMBER tomorrow, RECYCLE today” is a saying that Subaru has been acting upon since day one of operation.  In it’s 22 years of manufacturing history, Subaru has dealt with many disasters that surely could have lead to epic downfalls in its business, but that hasn’t been the case.  Massive U.S auto bankruptcies and a global financial crisis are just a few of the events that normally would have negative effects upon the auto industry.  Subaru has come up with it’s own unique eco-friendly ways of manufacturing that  has helped the company achieve one of the highest success ratings in the United States today.

Working to promote a healthier lifestyle for the upcoming generations, and also providing their workers with a “clean and green” workplace, makes us very proud to be representing Subaru in Arizona.

MSNBC tells about Subaru’s accomplishments and how being environmentally friendly has helped the company out in the long-run.  To learn more about Subaru’s alternative success story click here.

Earth Day Green Driving Tips

April 22, 2011 by , under Environmentally Friendly, Green Vehicles.

Subaru and the Environment

Happy Earth Day!

Subaru understands that we have a great responsibility to the environment, but clean vehicles are just one part of it. In addition to offering certified Partial Zero Emission Vehicles since 2003, the Suburu of Indiana manufacturing plant became the first automotive assembly facility to be “zero landfill,” which means all waste is recycled or turned into electricity. In other words, a single-family home produces more waste daily than our SIA plant does all year. Also in 2003, Subaru of Indiana Automotive became the first automotive assembly facility to be designated as a Backyard Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation. Over 800 acres serve as a home for scores of birds and animals.

But enough about us. What do you do for the environment? Whether you’re driving a Partial Zero Emission Vehicle such as the Legacy, Outback or Forester, or any other Subaru model, you can make a difference by following a few simple Green Driving Tips, from the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE).

* If your vehicle has it, use overdrive gear at cruising speeds. When driving a manual transmission, shift up as soon as possible. Running in a higher gear decreases the rpm and will decrease fuel use and engine wear.

* Try using the vents and opening windows to cool off before you turn on the air conditioner. Air conditioner use increases fuel consumption, increases NOx emissions in some vehicles, and involves environmentally damaging fluids.

* Patronize gas stations that have vapor-recovery nozzles (those black, accordion-looking plastic devices attached to the nozzle) whenever you can.

* Think ahead. Try to anticipate stops and let your vehicle coast down as much as possible. Avoid the increased pollution, wasted gas, and wear on your brakes created by accelerating hard and braking hard.

* Take a load off. Carrying around an extra 100 pounds reduces fuel economy by about 1 percent. Take a few moments to unload your cargo area.

* Keep your tires properly inflated. Tires should be inflated to the pressure recommended for your vehicle; this information is often printed inside the door frame or in your owner’s manual. For every 3 pounds below recommended pressure, fuel economy goes down by about 1 percent. Tires can lose about 1 pound of pressure in a month, so check the air pressure regularly and always before going on a long trip or carrying heavy loads. Underinflated tires can also detract from handling, safety, and how long the tires will last.

* Park in the shade in summer to keep your car cool and minimize evaporation of fuel. If you have to park outdoors, windshield shades can cut down on summer heat and help keep the frost off in the winter.

Check your tire wear!

January 10, 2011 by , under Environmentally Friendly, Green Vehicles.

You can check the wear or your tires without a service technician or an appointment. The easiest way to monitor the wear of your tire can be seen with a simple self examination, and most people don’t even realize it…

Many tires are long-lasting, making it easy to take for granted they’re probably in good shape.  We worry about basic car maintenance, like oil changes and topping off fluids, but most of us would admit we pay little attention to the tires. other than checking the pressure every now and again. Well, now is the time to change all that!

Driving on tires with worn-out treads isn’t just neglecting an important aspect of fuel economy and overall vehicle wellness. It’s downright dangerous, and in some cases, even illegal!  But, did you know there is an easy way to monitor the wear of your tires without taking your car into the dealership?

Subaru Defines a New Kind of Green

August 13, 2010 by , under Environmentally Friendly, Green Vehicles.

The Subaru corporation has a much larger agenda when it comes to protecting our precious environment than just building low emissions vehicles!  Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. (SIA) really raised the bar when it became the first automotive assembly plant in the U.S. to be called “Zero Landfill” in May 2004.  This plant recycles nearly 100% of its waste materials for other uses, with nothing being dumped in a landfill!
