Show Us Your Love – A Need for Speed…
April 27, 2011 by tdomf_d5099, under Show Us Your Love, Show Us Your Love Contest.
It all starts with my 2004 Wrx while I was 18, and the quiet spring day that started all wrong. It was a nice day out and I had plans to head to downtown Chicago with my friends. As we get into the subey, my friend points out the need to wear seat belts. I agree with the conversation and then we start on our journey. About 5 miles into it, I get caught up at a stop light on a four lane highway. I am the first car, and since I love my Wrx and have spent time and money making the performance better I take off like a bat out of hell. Nothing is strange at this point, and the music from the radio is jamming. We get going pretty fast just at and around 100 mph. This is where things take a turn for the worst. There is a perpendicular road that crosses my path that does not have a stop light. I watch as a Suburban crosses into the middle and just as soon as he is about to stop like you are suppose to, he takes off. I’m not saying he rolled through, I’m saying I could see the torque and the front of his truck lift off. He was just simply trying to get across before the traffic was there. Little did he know that I was traveling at such a high rate of speed.
At this point I am in the deadlock stare of an accident. I have 3 choices; 1) Slam the breaks and pray I can avoid. 2) Try to steer the car around the backend of the stretched suv. 3) Gas it and go around the front of him.
I took option 3; I literally avoided a collision by gassing it and cutting in front of this SUV of doom. I’m so close I can see the radiator through his grill. This is when it gets interesting.
Due to me cutting in front of the suburban and with my speed near 105, I quickly try to get back onto the pavement. I had two tires on and two tires off the road. I went into a death spin, with such a high speed I helicopterd over the median which is 3 feet below the road and travel across 4 lanes of traffic. I end up about 300-400 ft from the original spin out and ended up taking down signs and trees along the way. That day I spent in jail for reckless driving, speeding and a few more charges.
As I am sitting there in disbelief what happened; I come to a realization. I wasn’t hurt, nor did the crash hurt the passenger in my car. I did not hit another vehicle and was astonished on how safe we were in an almost impossible scenario. The air bags never deployed due to no head on hit.

Show Us Your Love – Forester Goes To Dyno-Comp
April 19, 2011 by tdomf_d5099, under Show Us Your Love, Show Us Your Love Contest.
I had my Forester for one day when it was sent off to Dyno-Comp for a little extra tuning. Then a couple of months later new suspension was added and some cosmetic add-ons. New tires and wheels and I had my own mean machine to take to Firebird West for a Porsche Driver’s Ed event. With the sound of the exhaust and the lower stance, it really surprised a few folks, including me. It turned out to be a pretty sweet driving machine. I spent all day learning and testing my car and my limits.
Next stop was the autocross where I learned just how tight, responsive and fun a “station wagon” can be. I love my Forester for road trips, daily driving and now track days. This is one machine that will be with me for a long time to come.

Show Us Your Love – Georgia O’Keeffe Country
April 15, 2011 by tdomf_d5099, under Show Us Your Love, Show Us Your Love Contest.
I have always been interested in the art of Georgia O’Keeffe and today I got to see first hand the landscape that inspired her. I trekked north west of Santa Fe to Abiquiu and Ghost Ranch.
Sandstone cliffs rise from the desert floor in layers of orange, pink and yellow, limited only by the expansive blue sky that pushes down on the sprawling northern New Mexico ranch from above. Save for a few birds chirping and a breeze whistling through cedar trees, it’s quiet there.
This is Georgia O’Keeffe Country — remote, solitary and breathtaking.
Much of the red-rock scenery commonly associated with O’Keeffe’s work is seen well from the highway through the little town of Abiquiu. This most beautiful landscape is located in what is considered the poorest county of New Mexico, one of the poorest states in our country.
I took a landscape tour that actually pinpointed locations that were thought to be the actual inspiration of some of her paintings.
My Outback handled the paved and gravel road without a second thought. It was a great day!

Show Us Your Love – Two is better than one!
April 14, 2011 by tdomf_d5099, under Show Us Your Love, Show Us Your Love Contest.
My love for Subaru began way before I officially owned one. I still remember the day when I would watch the WRC and see my favorite team smoke the competition with the WRX. It wasn’t until Christmas 2008 I was actually able to own my first car as well as, my first Subaru. I had the luxury of taking on my Uncle’s car. It was a 2001 Outback. I had dubbed it, The Maroon Typhoon! Instantly I knew it was going to need some tender loving care, which is why I brought it to Subaru Superstore of Chandler to help me out.
I drove the outback for two years and it has seen many places other cars would never have the opportunity to see. I headed out with a group of friends to go camping and rock climbing along with some rappelling. On the drive there, it began to rain and instantly we knew it was going to be a great time! Upon entering the part we were stopped, not by mud or a flood but a skeptical camper. He walked up to our car and stated that the road is too muddy and then proceeded to ask if the Outback was AWD. I smiled and said ‘Of course, it is a Subaru,’ and then enjoyed the rest of our camping trip.
I loved The Maroon Typhoon so much, that I gave it to my brother for him to start driving. However, I was short a car or should I say… A Subaru! It was then, I did a local search on Craigslist and found my LOVE! A 2005 Legacy GT Wagon in Garnet Red Pearl. I had instantly fell in love with it when I met with the seller for the first time, just the sound, the performance, the shiny paint, and everything the Brand stands for. I knew this car was for me. I pulled out my very first car loan to buy this beauty and I have to say, the car loan is the only bill I look forward to paying every month, because I know that I am just that much closer to officially owning it.
So next time you see a Red Legacy GT Wagon, it is probably me, be sure to wave!

Show Us Your Love – The depression sets in…
April 12, 2011 by SUBARULOVERS, under Show Us Your Love, Show Us Your Love Contest.
Back in 2008, when the “fuel crunch” was coming, I traded in my SUV for a 2008 Subaru Forester 2.5XT Limited. Little did I know what would happen.
My whole world turned upside down. I went fishing, hiking, biking, and exploring! The Subaru changed me forever. Road trips on the weekend were mandatory. Yellowstone, Great Dunes, Moab, the Badlands, Santa Fe, Devil’s Tower were all taken in and well photographed through the panoramic sunroof. Snow posed no problem as I shod my Subi in snow tires. The AWD was fascinating. Zipping our little Subi in traffic was no problem for the urban days – turbo, baby! Finally, at long last (but seems like only yesterday), the lease ran out, and so did my job. So I had to return my Subi to another dealership (I was too embarrassed to take it back to where I bought it). So the depression sets in, but I still have dreams at night of me and my Subi riding towards the sunset on a new adventure…

Show Us Your Love – My Little Red Wagon
April 4, 2011 by SUBARULOVERS, under Show Us Your Love, Show Us Your Love Contest.
My brother, owning his 2006 STi, working for Marion Subaru (IL) and belonging to an online Subaru Club, referred me to his friend in Kentucky who was parting with his 1993 Subaru Impreza Wagon. From the first day I owned my Little Red Wagon, I wanted to do something unique with it. I decided to find Radio Flyer decals to put on the back door panels. After having done so, there was something missing, the wheels! I painted the wheels white and the caps red, to match almost perfectly the Radio Flyer wagon we’ve all grown up with.
To this day, people I run into call me Red Rider because of my Subaru. I love my Subaru; it is very economical, fun to drive and gets me everywhere I am going!

Show Us Your Love – My Love Died, But Was Given A New Heart!
March 31, 2011 by SUBARULOVERS, under Show Us Your Love, Show Us Your Love Contest.
So I guess this started back on January second of this year. When I went out on a nice long drive with some friends to Canyon Lake, just enjoying the beautiful weather and scenery. Windows down, music blasting just having a great time. That great time ended on our way back when I heard horrific noises coming from the engine bay. I didn’t know what happened, but knew it couldn’t be good; I remembered thinking to myself ”This is NOT the way to start off the new year.”
It turns out the motor blew, I was really bumming considering i had gotten my 2006 STi (my dream car) less than a year ago. But I took her to the Subaru Superstore of Chandler hoping and praying for any warranty work. I was told from everyone I know, that there was no way I would get it. But I DID! On January 25th, 2011 I got my car back! She is running so healthy and she has 2,500 on the new short block! I love this car so much and love the Subaru Superstore of Chandler even more for making me fully understand why I love owning my Subaru!

Show Us Your Love – True LOVE, Never Dies!
March 25, 2011 by SUBARULOVERS, under Day Trip, Show Us Your Love, Show Us Your Love Contest.
Subaru LOVE did not occur just recently in my family. We were hooked on them way back in 1979! and what can I say, when ya find something good, ya stick with it! 32 years, and at least 35 Subaru’s later, here we are. Our Subbies have trucked us through more snow banks, river beds, rutted forest trails, curvey mountain roads, ice covered driveways, and pot hole pitted parking lots than most other car owners could attest to with one brand.

Show Us Your Love: Experience of A Lifetime
March 24, 2011 by tdomf_d5099, under Show Us Your Love, Show Us Your Love Contest.

I was 16 years old when my next door neighbor bought a 2002 impreza wrx. Ever since that day, my vision of the ultimate road going machine has changed. My first ride in the wrx is unforgettable. I loved the car so much I had to buy one for myself… and I did. My 2003 Impreza WRX was a pure joy to drive. Amazing handling, boxter sound, driver focused interior and amazing agressive look. Since the day I bought mine, I will drive Subarus forever. I’m 23, and I’m on my 3rd WRX and lucky enough to pick up the new 2011 satin white sedan. So far 800 miles and have loved every mile of it.
